It was really nice to be able to check in our bags 2½ hours early, and we got a seat allocation of 3 ABCD. Yes upfront as I like it. There mustn’t be a 1st class operating on this flight I thought. We get to have the first row of the punters, just how I like it. Good start for Aegean Airways (Greece’s #1 airline). Paris CDG airport is massive and you need a cut lunch and a compass to get around. Got to the gate o.k and we boarded thank you.

This is where the fun starts. “Kalispera” (good afternoon in Greek). I responded with some mother’s tongue and rattled it off like a local. Mum would have been proud. Well she’s looking after me on this flight my friends!

Indeed, only 2 rows for 1st class, and we are in the 3rd row, nice. Toni and the kids are impressed. The lane is about to takeoff and I hear the hostess say, as many as you like to one of the other hostesses. In Greek I say, “me, me” as she turns to me and I cheekily say in perfect Greek, “can I sit in one of those spare seats?” Yes she says with a smile. Sorry Tone, I’m off like a swooping buzzard on a chuck wagon, and park my behind right up front in 1A. Yes folks, 1st class, I have arrived, thank you Aegean Airways and thank you Mum. I might add that this is the first time I have flown 1st class, and how special it is folks!

I’m sipping a free Heineken beer flying over the Swiss Alps, looking at snow covered peaks. I’m looking back at Toni and the kids, with a big grin on my face. I gesture for her to join me, but she shakes her head and says no. She knows how special this moment is for me. That’s why I love her so much. Life does not get any better than this my friends. I have video evidence to prove it all too. Yes I love Greece.

I’m typing away on my laptop doing this blog, but I must go, as I think I hear the clink of champagne bottles. How’s the view from back there Toni?
